Amy C. Oliver, CPM, FRAS is an award-winning journalist and science/health writer with 20+ years of experience distilling difficult concepts for science, health, tech, and consumer audiences.
Amy’s career has included work as a science writer and publicist for health, science, and tech communications for pharmaceuticals, AI healthcare, cybersecurity, public health, and cancer research organizations including Intermountain Health, Children’s Miracle Network, Millipore Sigma, Pfizer, and more. She has also served as a science writer and press officer for some of the world’s largest academic and science research observatories including the Smithsonian Institution, the National Science Foundation’s National Radio Astronomy Observatory and National Optical and InfraRed Laboratory, and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile.
Amy is a globally-recognized light pollution scientist and recently discovered two species of glowworms and three species of fireflies at unexpected elevations. She gave a TEDx talk about light pollution mitigations in October 2024. Amy is also an avid informal science education expert and has volunteered with NASA/JPL since 2016, and is a globally-recognized speaker under the pseudonym The Nerdy Astronomer.
Amy spends her free time traveling as a Scientist Aboard with cruise lines around the world. When at home in the Sonoran Desert, she shares her space with two Maine Coon mix cats, Drew and Phanta, four very thirsty desert rabbits, and one road runner with questionable ethics.
